Robin Rice is pleased to present Summertime 2007, an annual exhibition of photographs by artists represented by The Robin Rice Gallery. An opening reception will be held July 18th, 2007 from 5:30 to 8:30pm. The show runs through September 9, 2007.

“Summertime 2007 presents my esthetic vision,” says Rice. “It is the one occasion during the year that offers me the opportunity to present strong works of new artists as well the gallery’s stable of artists.” Hung salon style, Summertime 2007 offers something for everyone. “I have been organizing Summertime shows for 12 years. The exhibition takes days to install. Each image featured is very strong in itself. Most images were used in individual solo shows and chosen for their invitation. Putting the show together is like arranging a beautiful complicated puzzle. However, all the images, large and small, color, black and white, work extremely well together. I never want to take it down. There are 50 photographers in the show and I’ve selected one or two works per artists. It’s amazing how 80 to 100 photographs can fit together so well. It feels like a personal collection.”

Like this year’s invitational piece, "Airplane, Denver", by Bill Phelps, the images included in Summertime 2007 bring to mind thoughts of travel and leisure. Phelps graphic, portrait-like warm toned image of a jet idling on a tarmac (shot with an 8 x 10 camera) focuses on shadow and light, rendering the plane in all its majestic pre-flight glory. The show also includes carefree and blithe work: Beach scenes, ocean views, landscapes and cityscapes, backyard cookouts and front yard smooches. These images inspire recollections of good times spent with friends old and new, And while some of the images are not specifically summery, all are narrative in nature, storytelling shots that are representative of each individual artist. They are images that are meant to evoke a, smiles, warm feelings, nostalgia and a sense of wonder.
